Fishing

Edzell fishing’s is situated in the middle section of the North Esk. The beat offers approximately 4 miles of single bank fishing.
Starting in a dramatic sandstone gorge at the Gannochy Bridge the river softens into a gravel bottom before the beat ends at the junction of the West Water. With the fishing now including the former middle beat section and with having carried out significant bank maintenance there are now 22 named pools to fish.

There is a maximum of 4 rods available. The estate has an arrangement with the majority of opposing proprietors to avoid fishing the same beat at the same time. There is a section on the Top beat that is shared but lightly fished by the opposite bank normal courtesies should be shown.

There can be fish present throughout the season, numbers of spring fish are known to back up in the deeper pools until water temperatures rises allowing them to ascend over the loups to the upper river. Ladders have been constructed to access the steep gorge including the famous Gannochy pool, Wading is easy mostly on sandstone bedrock ledges a wading stick is recommended as there can be deep holes.

Please note, on EVEN dates anglers fish the top beat in the AM until 1300. Anglers then rotate to the bottom beat from 1300 onwards. This arrangement is reversed on UNEVEN dates (bottom beat AM, upper beat PM).
Fishing is Fly only.
