Discover the serene beauty of the historic Brechin Walled Garden, followed by a relaxing break in the charming Walled Garden Tearoom.

Nestled within the grounds of Brechin Castle, this natural oasis is often regarded as one of the finest private gardens in Scotland. It features stunning floral displays, majestic trees, tranquil pathways, and captivating sculptures, all enclosed within the formal garden’s historic walls.

After exploring the garden, unwind in the charming surroundings of the sensitively refurbished tearoom, located in the original head gardener’s cottage. Once a retreat for family and close friends, it has even welcomed the Queen Mother herself.

Relax with a hot or cold drink alongside freshly baked scones, tray bakes, and biscuits, or opt for a light bite with a comforting bowl of soup or a sandwich.

Please note that seating in the newly renovated tearoom is limited. Groups of four or more are encouraged to contact the Tearoom in advance through the Dalhousie Estates Facebook page.

Considerations

  • Attire: Dress for the weather and be prepared for rain.
  • Health & Safety: Be cautious on flagstone paths, stairs, and around the pond, especially in wet conditions.
  • Accessibility:
    • Car Park: A designated disabled parking bay is available; garden access is a 2-4 minute walk.
    • Brechin Walled Garden: Limited accessibility due to sloping terrain and gravel paths.
    • Tearoom: This is a historic property with no direct level access, however outdoor tables can be reached via the garden’s level access entry.

Directions

  • From the A90 (Dundee/Aberdeen): Take the A935 towards Brechin. Just before the town limits (30mph zone), turn right at the Brechin Walled Garden & Tearoom sign, then take an immediate right. Follow the signs.
  • From Brechin: Take the second entrance marked Brechin Walled Garden & Tearoom, then turn immediately right and follow the signs.

Things to do

At Dalhousie Estates we welcome many visitors from around the world. There is comfortable accommodation with the best of food and drink for parties of up to 8 couples at Brechin Castle and Invermark Lodge, usually shooting or golfing groups, and of particular interest to corporate parties.

Fishing

Edzell fishing’s is situated in the middle section of the North Esk. The beat offers approximately 4 miles of single bank fishing. Starting in a dramatic sandstone gorge at the Gannochy Bridge.

Activities

Angus also has a wide variety of places of interest and visitor attractions including Glamis Castle, Brechin Castle Centre, The House of Dun and The Wildlife Reserve at Montrose Basin.
